Response to Gerry:

While the budget drives so much of what we do, our experience in teaching is
it takes 4 to 6 hours to really make a difference that can be taken out to
the cockpit the next day. Even 2 hours is not really enough time to make a
difference, in our opinion.

Until someone is willing to write a check like UAL did in the earyly 80's to
make a serious investment in capturing human error, we may not be able to
make a difference in the classroom. The crew is the last line of defense, and
we may be able to make changes in philosophy, policies, procedures,
practices, and imbedding CRM into the checklist somewhat like Atlantic Coast
Alrlines is working with.

Key Dismukes' study shows us there is a long way to go in LOFT design and
debriefs. That and better CRM Reviews by check airmen on live trips may be
fruitful areas we could make a difference. Just some ideas.
