Hi, Surenda,

Reference your and Tareq's comments:

In my 6-7 years experience acting as a CRM facilitator, I've found very
little trouble with the "old dogs" in CRM workshops. I believe that if
someone is going to resist the training, that it is a facet of
personality, and not so much experience, age, or hours logged. The best
workshops that I've had were the ones with a great mix of experience
levels and jobs. As you say, many of the older captains have been doing
this stuff for years--we just never studied it before

The Asian cockpit gradient is certainly a fact, but the Asians don't
necessarily have a patent on it. Some western airlines have been famous
for much the same thing. In any case, there are many cultures in this
world, and we are going to be feeling our way for a long time to find
the methods that work best with each one. I found in my work in Latin
America that only by setting goals for crew performance at the beginning
can one work out the desired objectives for the courses and establish
training which will encourage the desired results. Unfortunately, our
most common "canned" CRM courses are based upon North American (US and
Canada) and European models. Obviously, this is not appropriate
everywhere else, nor is it even always appropriate within those
geographical areas.

By the way, I had the priviledge of doing a couple of CRM workshops in
the UAE a few years ago. The exquisitly multicultural nature of the
participants (usually only two or three of the same nationality within
the group) made the course very rewarding for all of us--communication
within and between crews was enormously improved by the end of the
course. I only hope that everyone kept up with it in their further
training.

In any case, thanks for letting me spout off.
