Steve,
Thanks for your words. I may not have done the best job in the world
relaying the situation, but you're the only one who seemed to see that
this situation was not black and white. I did counsel the IP a little
simply because he did not brief what he flew and as you said, he did not
bring his copilot back up to speed once he deviated from SOP's. What I
was trying to also point out is that the IP's here said they would have
realized the deviation from SOP's(due to their increased situational
awareness) and either confirmed the decision to land or they would have
repeated the go-around call. We have quite an experienced group that is
used to flying together and have only recently been getting new
additions. This has created grey areas that I am working to resolve.
The main area I was looking for advice is my response to the copilot.
All three of us talked about this situation, but I wanted to be sure I
drove home the idea that the copilot's inputs were both valued and
necessary. Obviously, there is a difference between words and deeds,
and I wanted to know what those more experienced than I would do. Any
