It seems to me that if the crew had a clear mission concept, then synergy (or
anything else for that matter) can be assessed in terms of mission goals. The
overall goal and specific goals. This is provided the crew has the same goals
as command amd control (dispatch).
I agree with you that a highly synergistic and savey crew can get themselves
in hot water if they follow a "bad" plan. We once had a C-5 crew talk
themselves into doing a three-engine take-off the recover to Cairo. They
never quite determined why the engine inquestion went to idle in flight. Good
CRM skills, bad plan.
