Hi Chris! Good to see you participating!

We have had a lot of interesting discussion here on the list relating to
cabin crew issues. This is a new area for me personally, so I have
really been interested in what has been said. A few observations from
my flight crew experience --

Performance Indicators (or Markers if you prefer) have been effective
when used with flight crews. As Chris says, they are used primarily to
*evaluate* performance during LOFT, LOE, and Line Observations and
Checks. My question is -- if you don't use them for evaluation, where
would they be applied with cabin crew members?

The indicators' are also valuable in defining training objectives. The
goal, again, is evaluation. This time, however, we are evaluating the
effectiveness of the training as much as we are of the crew member. If
the crews do not measure up, changes often need to be made to the
training program. Sub-standard performance is seldom just the crew's
fault.

As to what they are called, a different name can sometimes solve the
problem. The real issue, however is how the indicators are used. If
your development team is against evaluation as a way to verify the
effectiveness of the training and proficiency of the crew members, no
label you create will solve *that* problem.
