Volunteers are always welcome. The draft workshop outline puts emphasis on
group activity rather than presentations. That means we will not need a
long list of speakers to fill the four hours. We are planning to use the
working group format which worked well for me when I did the automation
workshop at the 7th Symposium.
That involved short (15 minute) presentations on key concepts by top
industry experts, followed by break-out groups. Each group was assigned a
specific task or objective, and the workshop concluded with each group
making a short presentation on what they accomplished. The results were
then made part of the Proceedings. In our case, we will make all workshop
materials and results available on the CRM Developers web site as well.
We will need members of the SAM Tiger Team to speak briefly (15 minutes) on
the key concepts, and facilitators to work with the groups. The workshop
has several clear objectives which the participants should achieve and the
facilitators can scatter among the groups to ensure they are making
progress. I haven't thought about who would MC the event.
While we have a lot of time to fill, we also have a lot of ground to cover.
We will also need help preparing the materials and handouts. All this
means that it's time to start the hard (but fun) work of finalizing plans
and building the materials. Since I got caught with my hand up when we
asked for volunteers to develop the workshop at our Ames meeting, I'll act
as project coordinator. There are lots of opportunities for members of the
group to take responsibiilty for the different elements of the process and
ensure the workshop's success.
