I have learned over the years that when training a "foreign" student
in the art of FMS operation, the learning can be quicker and more complete
when using his "cultural environment" ie, flying in his airspace, than when
using the KBFI to KMWH routing. When the student understands the subtle
issues of where he is going and the navaids available as well as altitude
constraints etc., he can then concentrate much better on the issues of FMC
operation. The problem is that the simulators we use are not always
equipped to use their airspace, our language is hard for them to understand
and unless you have a good interpreter who knows FMC language they receive
BS for instructions, and the hours of training are usually in their midnight
period. Can you think of any thing else to really help them out?? :)
