Sorry Brian, I cannot come up with one reason why the industry should go
to electronic normal checklists. Unnecessary increased workload, possibly
taking a pilot "out of the loop", no place to install it on my airplane,
very unnecessary expense, maintenance??? What are the reasons it should
warrant serious consideration?
Abnormal checklist/consequences?? Can be viewed on display unit #4 on the
MD-11, however, this is where my system synoptics are displayed. The
synoptic pages can be very valuable; they can provide the information
needed to make the safest decision when handling abnormals, which is far
more important than an electronic checklist to me. I'll bet I can always
find a couple of quick reference "hard card" checklists within arms reach
and of course my Pilot's Operating Manual a foot away on my left side. I
wish I could think of just one good reason it can be justified, sorry!
I'm off to the sim. to work with a crew shortly - I'll run it by them
during the brief.
