We at Air New Zealand have been using the NASA/UT Performance Indicators
(developed by Bob Helmriech and his team, if memory serves) for a couple of
years now.
We are in transition in the area of grading and what to do in the event of
a failing grade.
As a result of efforts early in the CRM programme to have "old Salts" buy
in, the programme was deemed "non jeopardy": ie "you have to take part in
the training but if you don't display attitudes and behaviours promoting
good CRM, then no big deal".
Like many other airlines the company is working toward AQP,so grading
CRM performance (in our case, on the NASA/UT Performance Indicators, or
derivatives thereof) will be as important as any other area. Right now, a
failing CRM grade for a crew or individual in line or sim checks is dealt
with on a case-by-case basis (not many cases, thankfully), generally
including an interview/counselling by one of our CRM
development/facillitator team.
